7 Things To Leave Off Your Grocery List

Everyone has experienced it at least once; you look at your account in the middle of the month and there is almost no money left. This is an uncomfortable situation that so many people find themselves in. So in order to avoid this, and to make sure you have enough money left at the end of the month, we are give you a summary of 7 things you can cross off your grocery list, as there is lots of money to be saved when it come to grocery shopping.

Table of Contents

  • 1. No more ready to eat products
  • 2. No more bottled water
  • 3. No brand name drugs
  • 4. Stop going out for dinner
  • 5. Buy unbranded products
  • 6. Use Coupons
  • 7. Save money on magazines or books

1. No more ready to eat products

We go to the supermarket and buy the already cut salad, which is enough for max. 2 persons. We can get much more for the same price. Yes, we have to cut the salad ourselves, but that only takes a few minutes. So we save a lot of money and it tastes much better than the one in the supermarket. The same applies, of course, to all other finished products, whether it be pancakes, casseroles, etc., which are all made in the supermarket.

2. No more bottled water

I keep seeing people in the supermarket buying bottled water. And every time, I wonder why on earth. Tap water is not only much cheaper, but in most cases even healthier than supermarket water. Besides, you don’t have to carry heavy bottles anymore. For people who absolutely need fizz in their water, there is a soda fountain or similar devices, which you can buy for about $50.

3. No brand name drugs

From time to time we get sick, so it is good to have some things from the pharmacy already at home. But did you know that you can save a lot of money on medicine?

As an affiliate partner of various brands, we earn commissions on qualifying purchases.  Disclosure

Do not trust the pharmacist. In most cases they will sell you the product that offers them the highest profit margin. It is not unusual to receive additional payments from suppliers when they sell their product x amount of times. The same applies here as in the supermarket.

Often you only pay extra for the packaging and the brand, but the content is often the same. Check the Internet to see which products are identical. Here we come to the next point as well.

4. Stop going out for dinner

In most cases, eating in restaurants is much more expensive than preparing your own food. Especially nowadays everybody can cook for themselves with the help of Youtube.

Search your meal on Google or just look on YouTube and you will see how to prepare it step by step. Many people go out for dinner to do something with their friends. But if they just cook together at home, it’s usually a lot more fun than going to an expensive restaurant, and it saves a lot of money at the same time.

5. Buy unbranded products

When you go to the supermarket, you always see expensive brand products at first glance. These often look much better.

You could save money by buying brands that are cheaper than well-known brands. Many discounters now offer private labels that are even produced by the brand manufacturer, but are only packed in cheaper packaging and sold at a lower price than the discounters’ own brands.

There is not always a big difference between value and premium ranges. Try it out and let your palate decide, not the glossy label.

6. Use Coupons

You can either you look at the flyers that you receive in your mailbox every week, or you simply search the Internet for the flyers from your supermarket. You can also save a lot of money by spending a little time on them.

Especially with products that you only have to buy once or twice a month, such as toothpaste, toilet paper, etc. However, don’t spend more on gas to get those awesome deals than the deals are worth. So make sure to be conscious of transportation, as it is rarely worth it to go across town for a toilet paper coupon.

7. Save money on magazines or books

Today, there are many more ways to save money than in the past. You can now buy your magazines digitally. This has the advantage that you don’t have to wait long for the mailman to bring you your magazine, but it is also usually cheaper online as there are no printing costs.

The same applies to books, regardless of whether you have a tablet or an e-book reader. This will save you a lot of money in the long run, because most books are also available as e-books and are always a few dollars less.

If you can’t do without a book, I recommend that you go to a library. Of course you have to pay attention to the form your books take, especially in small towns, which is very difficult. But there is also a solution to this problem. Just buy used books online at Amazon.
