Taking care of your personal finances can be overwhelming, especially when you don’t know where to start.
Therefore, you should start learning about money on a small scale. If you take a little time each day, you can learn to manage your finances relatively easily.
I learned to manage my personal finances by reading financial articles every morning.
Since then I have earned more, reduced my debts and started to invest.
Without that time every day, this would not have happened, just because I didn’t know what I really needed to do and how easy it would be.

1. Organise Your Time Before Your Money
Instead of feeling that there is so much to learn and not knowing where to start, the challenge for you is to commit to 15 minutes a day
It takes time to learn about money, but by committing the same amount of time everyday , it will become a habit. It works best if you choose the same time every day (e.g. 8 am-8:15), seven days a week.
Your computer can be a valuable source of information. Just go online and choose articles which apply to the questions you have and read them.
Bookmark them, if you feel they are answering your question, and come back to them the next day.
You can also start reading books on personal finance, and again do it every day for 15 minutes.
It will help you to learn how to get out of debt, how to save for your retirement and how to make money.
It doesn’t matter if your finances are bad or in good shape. You can control your finances by starting to spend time with them for 15 minutes a day.
2. What Should You Focus On For 15 Minutes?
Your main focus should be to get a realistic picture where you stand when it comes to your money.
Think about questions like:
- What are my habits?
- What would I like to know about when it comes to my finances?
- How can I improve my current situation?
- How can I save more money?
If you know what you are looking for you can browse through different kinds of media and read through solutions.
And this is where you can turn to:
- Personal finance books.
- Blogs about money matters (subscribe to my blog here).
- Podcasts about finances
- Organize your own finances in categories
- Make a plan which works for you to manage your money
Start with what is easiest for you. Whether you listen to something while driving or read blogs during your lunch break – whatever you do, do it. The easier it is for you, the better you’ll do it and stay on track.
Choose a little variety. Start with a book on personal finance, then listen to a podcast and finally read blogs (or in the order you prefer). And don’t forget to spend some time analyzing your own finances.
After all, it is a combination of these activities that will help you take control of your financial life over time.
Fifteen minutes is not a lot of time. But 15 minutes a day for months is a long time.
You will be surprised how much you will learn in a year (91 hours!), if you do this. It will change your life.
3. Why 15 Minutes?
Fifteen minutes a day is manageable. That’s why you should start out that way, and make that commitment.
Wanting to learn all about personal finances can sound crazy. And if you’re like most people, you won’t do anything.
But 15 minutes – who can’t have 15 minutes in the morning or just before bedtime or at lunch? If I can find 15 minutes – You can find 15 minutes.
15 minutes a day is long enough to form a habit. You keep putting new information into your head in small doses. It may seem small at first, but over time it will have a huge impact on your life.
Your habits determine your success. Small daily disciplines become the difference between success and failure. So if you want to succeed with money, start with 15 minutes a day.
4. The 15-Minutes Rule In Everyday Life
Whenever we want to learn something new or achieve something that seems unattainable, it helps to put this rule into practice.
You can apply this to any aspect in your life. We all are busy, but we own it to ourselves to take care of what is important.
Do a 15 minutes exercise every morning, take 15 minutes during breakfast to read about finances, take a 15 minutes walk after dinner every day. You can train your body and mind to become more disciplined for your own benefit.
Consistency and repetition are the key to success. I use a reasonable amount of time in my daily routine to achieve my goals, financially and otherwise. And this is exactly what the 15-minutes rule means.
Final thoughts:
It doesn’t matter if you are not where you want to be financially at the moment.
You just need to know that it doesn’t have to be that way anymore! You can change it. You have the control.
Start by spending 15 minutes a day learning about personal finances. You will be surprised how a little discipline can change your life in a positive way.
