Being able to turn your hobbies into money is also a great option when you’re unemployed and unable to find suitable employment to fit your life.
Hobbies that will make you money are a great option because most of us aren’t going to do a hobby unless we enjoy it so you’ll get monetary and emotional fulfillment from doing it!
It’s a win-win for everybody.
1. Start a Blog
If you’re a new reader of Not Quite an Adult, you may not know that this entire blog actually started as a hobby. It was the summer, I had just graduated with a business degree and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and was too scared to get a “real” job. So, I started a personal finance blog so I could feel productive while I wasn’t yet working and I’ve never looked back.
I’ve turned this blog into my full-time job and it isn’t as daunting and difficult as it may seem. I am now making over $17,000/month and am able to build myself up towards financial freedom!
Because of my successes with blogging, I decided to put together a big guide on how to start a profitable blog, in article format, completely for FREE!
2. Take Online Surveys
Okay, for most people taking online surveys doesn’t seem like a hobby, but it can be! If you find a decent online survey company you can do these surveys while you’re watching tv, going to the bathroom, or while you’re stirring your dinner!
It’s an awesome way to make a little bit of side income without having to put in the consistent effort if you just don’t have the time.
3. Try Proofreading
This is a bit of a weird one, not going to lie to you guys. However, I’ve met people who absolutely love to read and edit other people’s work who have turned proofreading into their full-time income but it started out as just a hobby.
Seriously, I had a friend who would edit all of my papers in University for me and wouldn’t let me pay them or anything, an actual hobby!
If you don’t know what proofreading is, essentially, companies will pay people to read through documents, ebooks, etc. You can proofread from ANYWHERE in the world as long as you have a computer and an internet connection, so it’s a great option for a lucrative hobby!
If you’ve ever enjoyed editing someone else’s work, proofreading might be the best hobby for you. The best part? Well, there’s a completely FREE workshop you can attend to learn the first few steps towards becoming a proofreader.
4. Sell Clothes on Poshmark
A lot of people love to shop but that isn’t a good way to make money from a hobby. However, you can make money by selling clothes on Poshmark.
Basically, you can go into thrift stores or regular stores on good sale days and find great stuff to resell on Poshmark. So, Posh is an app and website where people can sell clothing from their closets or stuff they’ve bought specifically for sale on poshmark.

If you’re the type of person who LOVES spending time in the gym and you have the ability to motivate, you may be a perfect fit to because a fitness influencer.
Growing a social media that is entirely based on fitness can help people learn the right foods to eat, exercises to do, and motivation to keep going.
It’s even possible as a micro-influencer (an influencer without a ton of followers) to get sponsorships from awesome companies that will pay you a great wage.
Also, you can use affiliate marketing to sell products you totally believe in, to people who need them! It’s a really awesome way to talk about something that you’re passionate about to people who need it.

6. Make Youtube Videos
There are so many people who started out as teenagers in their bedroom making silly videos who have managed to turn that hobby into a multi-million dollar business. If you have a decently interesting personality, and so basic video editing skills, you can do Youtube!
Youtube is a great way to make money and build an audience that you can monetize for life. A great thing about Youtube is that you can foster an audience just making one video a week. Not too much time, and a lot of opportunities.
Youtube’s also awesome because no matter what you’re into, there is a community of people making videos on it. There are budgeting communities, make-up communities, and so much more!
7. Video Gaming
This one is perfect for any hardcore gamers out there that might be reading Not Quite an Adult. There are people out there who are making really great money each month by streaming themselves playing video games on Twitch or making gaming videos on Youtube.
All you need is an internet connection, a webcam, a microphone, and a love for video games! You can stream games like Fortnite, the Sims, and so much more!
8. Baking
If you have a sweet tooth and better than basic baking abilities you could start baking cakes, cookies, brownies, or whatever you like and sell them to friends and family for special occasions.
We’re living in a time where every single party ends up on Instagram and Facebook and people are willing to pay extra money for a fancy cake or cute cookies. You could make smash cakes for first birthday parties or adorable cakes for gender reveal parties.
Just be sure to charge enough money to cover all of your expenses and your time or else it’s just going to be a giant waste of your effort!
9. Crafting
A few year ago the only place to sell your crafts was at an actual craft fair; now with the invention of Etsy, every day is a craft fair! If you’ve got an artistic talent, you can probably sell stuff on Etsy.
You can sell paintings, handmade decorations, furniture, pet collars, and so much more.
The best thing about Etsy is how big your market could be. If you were creating crafts to sell 10 years ago, you’d probably only be able to sell them to friends, family, and people in your city. Now you could sell them to someone across the country, how cool is that?
10. Photography
Do you enjoy taking photos on your phone? Or are you an amateur photographer with a decent camera? You could make some good side money just from the pictures YOU ALREADY TAKE.
You can sell your photos on Shutterstock and make a good amount of money anytime someone downloads your photo for their own use! If you take enough photos, companies all around the world could be using your images. Pretty cool stuff!
If you work hard enough you can start an entire photography business where you can take photos of families or weddings and so much more.
11. Pet Sitting
Okay, so maybe “loving animals” isn’t considered a hobby… but it should be! I’m a huge dog lover and if I have the opportunity to make money from that love I’m totally down to try it.
You can pet sit on the weekend for people who are going away on vacations or if you work from home you can pet sit for somebody while they’re at work! Everybody loves their pets and would probably love for you to play with them.
You can learn more about pet sitting for money in this article about Rover!
12. Organization
Are you one of the types of people who just love to make sure everything has a place? Is your closet organized by colour? You may have a future as a personal organizer!
You could totally spend your weekends going to people’s homes and helping them declutter their lives and reorganize their closets and basements!
It’s a great way to make some extra money and if you like to clean and organize you can totally have some fun doing it too!
13. Graphic Design
Have you heard of the website Fiverr? Fiverr is a website where you can sell your services for 5+ to people who need them.
If you’re a decent artist or graphic designer you could design logos for business owners like me who have zero experience with any of that kind of stuff.
14. Drawing
Being an artist is something awesome and you should be proud if this is you, I wish I had a creative bone in my body. You can turn your drawing and artistic abilities into a nice side income by selling your drawings or art prints on websites like Etsy, Redbubble, or others.
You can also showcase your art on social media websites like twitter and get people to commission you for drawings of them, or their pets!
15. Writing
Were you always a great student in English class? Do you love to write but don’t want to have the extra stress of a social media presence on your own blog? Freelance writing is a great way to make money from home whenever you have the time.
I never realized how great freelancing could be until I saw this video by a Youtube channel called CurveyHipsAndTintedLips, she talked about how she makes $3-5,000 a month from freelance writing and she’s ONLY 19. You can watch that video here for more insight on freelance writing!
16. Thrifting
Are you super aware of different brand names and what things are really worth? If you go to a Goodwill store you can easily find $100 worth of merchandise that you could sell for $500 on eBay.
It’s pretty crazy some of the things that people are just willing to donate. All you need is some shipping materials and a little bit of time!
17. Gardening
Are you one of the many people out there with a beautiful green thumb? I’m definitely not.
If you have a decently sized yard and know how to garden you can sell your fruits and vegetables to your neighbors and they’ll definitely appreciate the freshness since it’s coming from your backyard!
